Greg Laurie: This Is the Real Unforgivable Sin

Share:

Harvest Church’s Greg Laurie’s sermon on the unforgivable sin is going viral as he examines what it means to blaspheme the Holy Spirit.

Laurie has preached on the subject many times, pointing to Matthew 12 where religious leaders claim Jesus was possessed by the Spirit of Beelzebub.

“God forgives sin,” Laurie tells his congregation. “Our God has a big eraser.”

For those who struggle with the reality that the wrathful God of the Old Testament is the loving God of the New, Laurie points to Psalm 86 and Micah 7.

However, while God forgives the deepest rebellions and most impure hearts, He does have a limit.

“The only sin that God will not forgive is the sin that we will not confess,” Laurie says.

But that’s not all.

“There is a point of no return, there is an unforgivable sin,” Laurie says.

It’s the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.

“If I can’t share something with you in an understandable way, then I am missing what God called me to do,” Laurie said. ” … That’s what the religious leaders did not do. Instead of bringing people close to God, and in many ways they kept them from God, and they wanted to stop Jesus, and they actually attribute the work of God to the work of Satan. And that shows that their hearts were getting hard, and they were actually getting closer to committing the unforgivable sin. It’s a scary thing.”
