Seeking Vengeance, Witches Organize to Hex Convicted Rapist Brock Turner
Brock Turner’s light sentencing has many people demanding justice, but a group of witches took matters into their own hands. In a Facebook invite, a witch named Melanie Hexen invited guests to sit at their “home altars” Tuesday night and hex Turner.
Brock Turner is a former Stanford swimmer who was sentenced last week for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman. His sentencing—six months in jail and three years’ probation—has been widely decried as being far too lenient.
On the page, Hexen gave detailed instructions for witches to join in the hexing. She encouraged drawing “a circle of power,” invoking spirits, raising power through meditation and other means, and visualizing anger as flames consuming the target.
“Repeat three times,” Hexen said. “‘Brock Allen Turner, we hex you. You will be impotent. You will know constant pain of pine needles in your guts. Food will bring you no sustenance. In water, your lungs will fail you. Sleep will only bring nightmares. Shame will be your mantle. You will meet justice. My witchcraft is strong. Our witchcraft is powerful. The spell will work. So Mote it be.'”
While believers know two wrongs don’t make a right, that hasn’t stopped these witches, who say their witchcraft may be further weaponized against rapists. Some participants expressed hope that hexing would be used against other sexual predators, and one commenter on the page even said, “This isn’t my first time hexing a rapist.”
The Facebook event has since been closed to further comments, but the final message is an ominous one: “Witches – we have made national news. Our power grows!”
