Syvelle Phillips, 83, went to be with Lord on Oct. 13.

Born in Munson, Fla. in 1929, Phillips answered God’s ministry call as an evangelist at 18. At 19, he conducted a month-long revival in the largest Assemblies of God church in America at that time. He spoke at the National A/G General Council at the age of 36.

Phillips pastored churches in Niceville, Fla. and Santa Ana, Calif., and hosted the “Pastor Phillips” radio Bible study program for 25 years. In the early 1970s, Syvelle and his wife, Lovie, launched a childcare sponsorship program through Christian Communications Commission. The program provides basic necessities for about 4,000 children in 15 locations, including India, Rwanda, Uganda, Nagaland, Nepal and Liberia while helping many families of national pastors.

Phillips was a faithful minister of the gospel, speaking to millions during the last 65 years. He founded Evangel Bible Translators 36 years ago and worked tirelessly in the task of training many others to
translate the Scriptures into little-known languages spoken in remotest regions around the world.

Charisma magazine wrote about him several times. Charisma Media founder Steve Strang said Phillips meant a lot to him because Phillips was the first interview he ever conducted at age 14. At the time, Phillips was the speaker at a youth camp in Florida and Strang wrote about him in the camp newspaper.

Besides his wife of 60 years, Lovie of Rockwall, Texas; Syvelle is survived by his two sons Philip Syvelle Phillips and Darin Paul Phillips, their wives, his 10 grandchildren.
