Will Islam Surpass Christianity as World’s Largest Religion?
Fox News and LifeZette.com are reporting today that a new study indicates that Islam could surpass Christianity as the world’s largest religion. The Pew Research Center says that if current demographic trends continue, the number of Muslims is expected to exceed the number of Christians by the end of this century.
The American Pastors Network (APN, www.americanpastorsnetwork.net) frequently delves into headlines about Islam through its Stand in the Gap radio ministry, with a goal to provide pastors, leaders and engaged believers the tools to analyze news from a biblical and constitutional worldview, as well as defend their beliefs and protect their freedoms.
APN president Sam Rohrer has said that radical Islam is one of the greatest threats to American freedom, and urges pastors to educate their congregations about the dangers of Islam.
On Friday, March 24, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. ET, APN is hosting a conference call and webinar for pastors, leaders and Christian media about how they can learn more about these dangers, as well as how to protect their churches and their freedoms.
Participants can join in a discussion with Dr. Mark Christian, a former Imam with family ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. Christian has been a guest on APN’s Stand in the Gap Today, heard on 425 radio stations nationwide, to share his insights on this crucial topic. During the call and webinar, Christian will present riveting true stories followed by a Q&A session.
Those wishing to join the call, titled “Is Islam Luring the American Church Into Denying Jesus?,” may register online here. Once registration is complete, potential participants will receive further information via email on how to connect.
Regarding the study on the growth of Islam, simple demographics are involved. Muslim families, for example, have an average of 3.1 children per woman, while Christian families have an average of 2.7 children, Pew found in 2015. Today, Christians make up roughly 2.2 billion people.
Currently, Christianity is the world’s largest religion, with Islam coming in second. The third largest religious group, according to Pew’s research, is an “unaffiliated” segment that makes up about 1.1 billion people, with Hindu as the fourth largest at about 1 billion people.
Pew estimates that from 2010 to 2050, the Islamic religion’s population size will grow by 73 percent, while the Christian population is projected to grow 35 percent. {eoa}
