From Franklin Graham to Frank Amedia, Intercessors Are Warring Against Hurricane Harvey

Share:

It threatens to be the worst storm in more than a decade, with expected damage expected to rival if not exceed Hurricane Katrina.

But Christians don’t view this storm through the world’s eyes. Rather, they’re commanding it to dissipate in the name of Jesus.

Here’s what they’re saying:

Franklin Graham, evangelist and president of Samaritan’s Purse:

Hurricane Harvey is expected to bring catastrophic flooding and severe storm damage to the coast of Texas. As we wait for the storm to hit, we are positioning supplies and planning to bring immediate assistance to affected families. Most importantly, we are praying for God’s protection for those in the storm’s path.

Frank Amedia, pastor and chairman of POTUS Shield:

I call the intercessors and prayer warriors to declare and decree that the fury of this storm be dissipated. We declare that the apex be diverted, that the turbulent forces of the storm turn upon themselves and the four winds of heaven compress it, suppress and depress it! God of Elijah, declare yourself and show your majesty to all the earth! In the name of the Lord who calms the storm, Jesus Christ be glorified.

Chelsen Vicari, evangelical program director of the Institute on Religion & Democracy:

Almighty God,

We praise you for being our solid shelter during the dark physical and spiritual storms of this life. Right now, as we watch Hurricane Harvey creep towards the Gulf Coast, anxiety and fear creep alongside it. This storm threatens our neighbors, family—my own immediate family members—and friends in the Gulf with potential
catastrophe. We pray this isn’t so.

Divert this storm, Lord, back into the Gulf waters where it causes no harm, if it be your will.

Holy Spirit, give all those in Hurricane Harvey’s path wisdom in their preparations and decision making. Grant peace and safety to all those possibly affected. Almighty, please be their shelter through the storm.

Brent Gambrell, president of Brent Gambrell Ministries and author of the forthcoming book, Living For Another:

Loving Father, today I ask you for protection and peace for my brothers and sisters in Texas. I pray for a hedge to be placed around so many who cannot escape the path of the storm. But God, I also pray that you will give wisdom to all the people on the coast. Give them your perspective on their situation, Father, so they will make right decisions during the storm. Open our eyes as well for your will and helping these people after. We will give you all the glory for your mercy. In Jesus’ name.

Matt Lockett, executive director of Justice House of Prayer DC, Washington, D.C.:

Lord, You taught the disciples in the boat that faith can be effective in the face of storms. With so many on the Gulf Coast threatened by Hurricane Harvey, we dare to stand in faith and speak peace to these winds. We cry out for supernatural intervention and for the preservation of life on behalf of those in the storm’s path.

Doc Marquis, author of The Final Rapture:

Father, we come to you in Jesus name, so that your divine protection may be poured out upon all those who’ll be affected by this storm about to hit Texas. Protect them all, Father, including your little creatures. Comfort them, reassure them and be merciful upon every single one of them Father, especially your little children. For we ask all of these things Father, in Jesus most precious and holy name … Amen.

Tim Cameron, author of 40 Days Through the Prayers of Jesus says:

Father, in the name of Jesus we go on the offensive against the forces of nature and cry out to you to still the storm and provide safety for all your children. All are your children.

In the authority of Jesus, with hearts that are clean, in humility, and in total surrender to you, we take the authority you have handed to us and we say, “Storm be still!” You have told us that is two of us agree on earth concerning anything we ask, it shall be done (Matt. 18:19). We agree that the forecast of this storm will be downgraded and its outcome minimal in comparison to all predictions.

The Holy Spirit dwells in us and by His dynamic power we call forth all the power of the Holy Spirit to release such forces that will subdue the destructive forces of nature that are causing this potential disaster. As your children we release the power of agreement, the power of prayer and fasting, the power in the name of Jesus, and we call forth signs in the heavens to diminish this storm to the glory of God.

Bert Farias, cultural commentator:

I don’t necessarily have a prayer to offer, but the Lord has taught me a vital principle over the years. We as members of the body of Christ have authority over our individual spheres of influence and personal domain. In this case, over our families and property. Individuals who are in Christ should exercise their own authority concerning these matters. Years ago, when we lived in the Florida panhandle, we were regularly in harm’s way of these dangerous storms.

As an example, in 2004, Hurricane Ivan was headed straight into our region. Before the storm hit, we met for prayer in our home with several families. The Lord spoke to us and told us that we could not stop the storm, but we could exercise our own individual authority over our families and property. We hearkened to what the Spirit of God told us, and although many homes in our area were destroyed, we suffered only minimal damage, which our insurance more than covered.

The word from the Lord is the same for every storm. Believers must exercise their individual authority over their domain.
