UN Security Council Begins Movement on Christian Genocide Tragedy

As we have previously told you, the United Nations (U.N.) Security Council passed a critical resolution that would help bring ISIS to justice and provide the aid and security that the Christians and others victimized by the ISIS genocide so desperately need.

The first step of Security Council Resolution 2379 required the U.N. Secretary-General to submit for approval his Terms of Reference. Recently we told you that the Secretary-General has submitted these Terms of Reference and that they have been approved by the U.N. Security Council.

We then sent a letter to the Secretary-General thanking him for his diligent work and urging him to quickly appoint a Special Adviser so the work in collecting and preserving evidence of the ISIS genocide can begin.

As part of our continued advocacy campaign we then recently sent a letter to U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley thanking her for the work she has done in ensuring that U.S. aid reaches the Christian and other minority victims. Additionally, we asked that she remain diligent in her work to ensure that the right person for this critical task is appointed by the U.N. We wrote:

“We thank you for working to provide Christians and those most affected by the ISIS genocide with the financial aid they so desperately need. This deal is a massive step forward in accountability, as the U.S. will now have direct access to and oversight of the U.N.’s aid operations as they relate to Christian genocide victims. Such oversight has been severely lacking. Much of the aid that has been delivered has been, thus far, diverted away from Christians. This oversight will ensure the aid that has been promised actually reaches Christians and other religious minority victims.

“We also thank you for your work on Security Council Resolution 2379. Resolution 2379 is a vital step in providing the relief that Christians and other religious minorities in Iraq earnestly need and the justice they most assuredly deserve. It is also a crucial step in sending the message that such barbaric behavior will not be tolerated by the international community.

“Now that the Security Council has approved the Terms of Reference, we respectfully and solemnly urge you to use whatever means are available to you to ensure that the right person is tasked with leading the Investigative Team. This Special Adviser will play a pivotal role in providing current and future relief for and facilitating the ultimate and lasting resettlement of the victims of the ISIS genocide.”

This is only the beginning, and a lot of work remains to be done. We will continue to advocate on behalf of the victims of the ISIS genocide by writing world leaders to ensure that the job gets done and the victims of the ISIS genocide receive the security and assistance the need.
