Pro-Lifers Target Planned Parenthood with March for Life

Marking the 38th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the 2011 March for Life protest started at the National Mall where leaders in the pro-life movement pledged to keep fighting for life and to end funding for Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood is the largest provider and promoter of abortion in the United State. The organization’s income in 2007 was $356.9 million. Planned Parenthood receives government grants and contracts in excess of $336 million, and total profits are over $114 million.

During the rally, Representative Mike Pence, said, “A nation that will not stand for life will not stand for long. You know there can be no lasting prosperity without a moral foundation in law. And as to focusing on spending, I agree. Let’s start by denying all federal funding for abortion at home and abroad.”

Pro-life Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler continued, “It does my heart good to see so many Missourians standing up for life. My pro-life views were already known to many of the good citizens attending the meeting, but I had the opportunity to tell those who were not familiar with my position that I stand for the protection of innocent lives—both the born and the unborn. I also informed the group of our efforts to de-fund Planned Parenthood, which performs abortions after receiving taxpayer dollars.”

U.S. Sen. David Vitter later spoke about the march adding, “I’m grateful for the many pro-life Americans from across the country, and especially in Louisiana, who continue to gather to express their sorrow over this ongoing tragedy—and to renew our commitment to building a culture where all people, born and unborn, are guaranteed the right to life.”

The pro-abortion Alan Guttmacher Institute reports nearly 50 million abortions have been performed since Roe v. Wade was decided. In 2008 alone, there were 1.2 million “legally terminated pregnancies” in the United States. And 93 percent of all abortions occur for “social reasons” such as a mother’s decision that the child is unwanted or “inconvenient,” Guttmacher reports.

Guttmacher says that there are 1,793 abortion “providers” in the United States and the average amount paid for an abortion is $413. That’s how much it costs to end an innocent baby’s life.

Will protests like March for Life make a difference?
