Holy Spirit Is Building Army of Intercessors to Thwart Satan’s Attacks
Believers around the world are interceding with one another to stem the coming tide of evil. Brad Long, executive director of Presbyterian Reformed Ministries International (PRMI, prmi.org), believes that building an army of intercessors to agree with one another in the Spirit will prevent evil and advance the kingdom of God.
“We believe the Holy Spirit is raising up this army of intercessors,” Long says in the Charisma Connection podcast. “And there’s a negative reason, then a very positive reason. The negative side of it is that we’re really in a time of increasing stress and conflict. The potential for the outbreak of evil is very, very intense right now—not just in the United States, but in the whole Western world. There’s a massive assault taking place against our Judeo-Christian foundations of Western culture. This is coming through Marxism. It’s coming through a lot of these attacks on the founding of our nations that are rooted in the Bible.”
PRMI, an interdenominational organization that grew out of a move of the Holy Spirit among a small group of Presbyterian ministers, looks to play its part to fulfill the Great Commission and bring the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
“This is a time very fraught with danger, but at the same time, tremendous possibility for the advancement of the kingdom of God,” Long says. “And so, anytime, all through history, what is God’s response to such times of danger and possibility? It is to raise up the intercessors as the vanguard of advancing His kingdom.”
PRMI intercessors aim to break curses and replace them with blessings.
“It’s an incredibly exciting thing when you’re caught up into this dance of cooperating with the Holy Spirit,” Long says. “You find He really does work through you, and we see prayers answered, and we see the kingdom of God advanced as it was in the confirmation of [Supreme Court Justice] Brett Kavanaugh.”
Rev. Martin Boardman is the prayer mobilizer for PRMI and works with intercessors worldwide. He encourages small groups to learn to work together in prayer, discovering each other’s strengths and weaknesses, but also how the Holy Spirit works through each individual. The Spirit may give one the gift of discernment and another wisdom. He may give another intercessor Scriptures to share with the group.
“As you learn to work together, you can form a really close team that the Spirit can really use powerfully to see these strongholds broken and the kingdom of God advance,” Boardman says. “So that’s what we’re all about—seeing God’s kingdom advance, and connecting and working with these small groups that can do just that.”
Long encourages believers to operate in the Spirit as they learn to pray together effectively, becoming “almost like a SWAT team” to engage in spiritual battle.
“We’re still learning, and we’re all being taught by the Lord in this together,” Long says. “And of course, it’s also learning to apply one of those basic principles Jesus teaches us about prayer, like if one or two or three of you agree on earth about anything, or if two or three of you are together, I am present with you. And Jesus says, ‘Ask anything in my name; if you’ll just give glory to the Father, I will answer it.’ So some of this is just basic. Every Christian knows these principles, but sometimes we need help in learning how to apply them as led by the Holy Spirit.”
