Builders Founder Mary Colbert Tells Secrets to Prayer That Changes Everything

Colbert recalls a phone call from her son D.J., who explained between tears how his newborn daughter, Kate, had trisomy 21 Down syndrome. The doctor told them that she was not going to live long.

After passing the phone to her husband, Colbert cried out to the Lord in prayer, “I cry unto You, mercy, Father. Help us to know what to do.”

Later at the ICU, Colbert encouraged her son and daughter-in-law to pray and trust in God despite their fear.

“They did it. Bless their hearts, D.J. and Becky stood to their feet out of obedience to my request, and through many tears, began giving praise and thanks for Kate’s life, trusting that God would do a miracle in her. I declared the Holy Spirit’s words spoken through me in the ICU,” Colbert says.

After much prayer, God worked a miracle in Kate’s life. Her surgeries were successful, and today she lives as a healthy 13-year-old who attends regular school and enjoys ballet. Colbert calls her the miracle baby.

Colbert’s experience through that trial, among many others, instilled in her a deep understanding of the power of prayer. That’s what inspired her to write Prayer That Changes Everything.

She says, “Trusting God can seem like a fallback position, a last-ditch solution, a cop-out. But it’s exactly the opposite. Trusting God is the most powerful thing we can do. We trust Him with the good, the bad and the ugly. We trust Him even when the results don’t turn out the way we want.
