John Bevere: Stop Bragging About Your Lack of Fear of the Lord
Christians have lost the fear of the Lord. They have become casual, or even flippant, about the things of God. This must change!
On this week’s Fire Starter podcast, I interview John Bevere about his life’s message: the fear of the Lord. We talk about how the coming move of God will include a restoration of the fear of the Lord and what fearing the Lord looks like.
“To fear the Lord,” Bevere explains, “means to love God so much we are afraid to be away from Him. We love Him and value His presence above all. Out of reverence for Him, we choose to love what He loves and hate what He hates. In the end, the fear of the Lord can be identified by one simple thing: obedience.”
Bevere describes a Christian who fears the Lord: “Believers who fear God obey Him instantly. They obey God even when it doesn’t make sense, if it hurts or if they don’t see the benefits.”
He says Abraham’s instant obedience to God, when asked to sacrifice his son Isaac in Genesis 22, is a great example of someone who feared the Lord.
“How many of us would take weeks or even years to ponder this command?” Bevere asks. He continues, “Have you ever been around someone who lightheartedly comments, ‘God’s been dealing with me about this for several months,’ and then laughs it off? They are actually bragging about their lack of the fear of the Lord!”
Do you understand what it means, in practical ways, to embrace the fear of the Lord? What are the multiplied blessings of living in the fear of the Lord?
