Christianity Gets Another Black-Eye with Upcoming Jerry Falwell Jr. Documentary
Read time: 2 minutes 57 seconds
Why are so many Christian leaders ignoring the warnings in the Bible about hypocrisy?
From the inquisitions of centuries past to the tragic fall of Hillsong leadership, leaders within the church are either not reading or ignoring the multitude of Bible verses warning against living a sinful life behind closed doors.
The name of Jesus is tarnished each and every time these failures of leadership are brought to light, and they will be exposed. Sometimes repeatedly.
This is the case of the heartbreaking scandal involving Jerry Falwell Jr., his wife Becki and the pool attendant who engaged in affairs with the couple for years.
Now the pool boy at the center of this scandalous event, Giancarlo Granda, is opening up about everything he was involved in with the Falwell’s in a new Hulu documentary, “God Forbid: The Sex Scandal That Brought Down a Dynasty.”
The explosive revelation that the Falwell’s had been living secret lives in total contradiction to God’s Word rocked the American Christian church in 2020, when Granda first came forward with the accusations of sexual impropriety.
As reported by Charisma News, Falwell would end up resigning as president of Liberty University, of which his father was the co-founder of, and admitted that the affairs Granda claimed had indeed occurred.
In the trailer for the new documentary detailing the events that led to Granda becoming a third-member in the Falwell’s marriage, he explains just how deep the corruption had crept into the Falwell’s lives, “They have a public image, but behind the scenes, they’re freaks,” Granda claimed.
If Jerry and Becki had studied the Bible as Christian leaders like they are expected and required to do, they would have known that nothing stays behind the scenes for hypocrites (Luke 12:1-2).
The pool attendant explained that prior to their fateful introduction, he had no idea who the Falwell’s even were, and if he had any idea of how things would have transpired, he would have said no to Becki Falwell’s advances:
“If I would have known that accepting this woman’s invitation to go back to her hotel room would have led to scandal involving the president of the largest Christian university in the world, and [the] president of the United States, I would have walked away and just enjoyed my private life,” explained Granda.
With the release of this tell-all documentary, the flood-gates have swung wide for the critics of Christianity. Tweets have already flooded the social media-sphere with phrases like, “In lust we trust” mocking the name of God.
“In lust we trust.” Our new documentary #GodForbid: The Sex Scandal That Brought Down a Dynasty about power, hypocrisy, the president of the world’s largest Christian university, Jerry Falwell Jr., his wife, and a one-time Miami Beach pool boy premieres November 1st only on @hulu pic.twitter.com/u1zrHXUAgB

With the actions of these Christian leaders, who can blame them?
These avoidable tragedies highlight the need for Christians to pray for their leadership. To lift them up in prayer to the Lord that He grants them wisdom, discernment and the strength to endure the trials and temptations of the enemy.
Prayers for repentance and spiritual restoration should cover all of these leaders who have fallen during their walk with Christ. Galatians 6:1-5 gives insightful detail about restoring the sinner, being mindful of our own walks and bearing one another’s burdens.
As Hulu looks to make a profit off of the sins and downfall of Christian leaders, lift up the Falwell’s in prayer, that they repent and turn from their old ways, that their family is protected during this time and that the church leadership of today is protected and strengthened against the enemy who seeks to destroy them.
