‘Full House’ Star Shares How She’s Stayed Sane in Corrupt Hollywood

Candace Cameron Bure isn’t one of those Hollywood celebrities who happens to be a Christian on the side when it fits into what she wants.

It’s quite the opposite, actually.

Bure—whom you may recognize from Full House, Hallmark movies, Dancing With The Stars or myriad other programs—says her biblical worldview defines who she is to her very core.

“For me, my faith is who I am, and I carry that with me whenever I go,” Bure says. “I don’t think of it in terms of ‘I have to live it out, or act this way or that.’ I’m just myself.”

But it took her 39 years, most of that spent in the entertainment industry, to learn some of the lessons she writes about in her latest book, Dancing Through Life. The book details her time on DWTS and some of the faith parallels she discovered along the way.

Bure was challenged like she never experienced while participating on the ABC reality show. From emotional to physical exhaustion to facing criticism from the judges and fans, Bure took her turn on the show to dive into courage and conviction. Along the way, her partner, Mark Ballas, helped her realize a few spiritual insights.

For starters, Ballas asked Bure to give him 100 percent all the time, especially during practices. Bure says as an actress, she’s used to saving her effort for the cameras … and that mentality can also apply in a relationship with God.

“I thought ‘Wow, isn’t that like our Christian walk?” She said of Mark’s request. “It’s so easy to say, ‘God, I’m giving you 50-80 percent,’ and that’s pretty good. But the Bible says God wants all of you, 100 percent of the time—the good stuff, bad stuff too. He’s connected to all of you. (There’s) no part of your life to leave Me out of.”

To give that 100 percent all the time, Bure says she’s constantly in prayer, seeking out the Holy Spirit and obeying when He asks.

But rather than accosting people with her beliefs or taking offense at Hollywood standards, Bure says her interactions are almost opposite from what one might expect. If she’s challenged, she can always walk away.

Bure’s biblical worldview not only dictates her moral choices and beliefs, but it’s also created her career trajectory.

The former child star is grateful for a steady stream of family-friendly jobs that have allowed her to promote programming she can share with her own kids. Having a set moral compass and devoted fans have enabled Bure to live the life she wants, honoring God with all of her being.

And that’s all He asks of us, that in everything in word or deed, we do as unto Him.
