A group of hip-hop singers is suing Katy Perry and Capitol Records because the pop star, they say, ripped off their creation.

According to the suit, Perry’s “Dark Horse” infringes on the copyright of a Christian song “Joyful Noise.” (You can click each link and judge for yourself.)

The suit also claims that “Joyful Noise” has been “irreparably tarnished by its association with the witchcraft, paganism, black magic, and Illuminati imagery evoked by the same music in ‘Dark Horse.’ “

St. Louis-based Christian hip hop group Flame filed suit. “Joyful Noise” was penned in 2007 and released in 2008. The song received a 2008 Gospel Music Association Dove Award nomination for the best rap/hip-hop song.

According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, Eric Kayira, one of the lawyers for the hip-hop artists, said that comparisons of the songs “percolated” various places online and eventually made their way to the performers’ ears.
