Louisiana Awakening Started in October, Still Ongoing Following Asbury’s Impact

The Louisiana Awakening that started in October is continuing to gain ground following the massive outpouring at the Asbury revival that has since spread across the nation.

Back in October, Old Zion Hill Baptist Church in Independence, Louisiana announced that they would have a week of revival featuring evangelist D.R. Harrison from Voice of Hope Ministries based in Tennessee. Now, that one week has turned into four months with thousands of people receiving salvation and freedom in Christ.

In an email to CBN News, Harrison’s assistant shared that the movement was “only gaining momentum.”

The tent revival has seen estimated of 25,000 to 30,000 people come to join in on what God is doing, and much of the event has included 24/7 prayer, preaching and worship. On the March 3 Facebook Live stream of the event, Harrison, staff and participants did something they believed would help to break off the chains of sin found in each person’s life. People brought in items that had kept them in bondage—from alcohol, tarot cards, voodoo dolls and more—and set them on fire as they sang about the victory they had received in Christ.

“There’s about $10,000 worth of stuff right here,” Harrison said. “People are bringing their dope, there’s crack pipes, this is a Harry Potter sorcery book.”

In a separate Facebook post, Harrison shared an image from this event, where a visible demonic face can be seen from the burning paraphernalia.

This symbol of breaking off demonic chains through the act of burning items resembled Acts 19 where magic books were burned as the name of Jesus was glorified. This is also significant because of the long-known practices of witchcraft in Louisiana. Harrison himself also has publicly spoke about the very real demonic forces that are at work in our world as he wrote on Facebook in support of the movie, “Come Out in Jesus Name” featuring Pastor Greg Locke.

“The truth of the matter is, I can NOT un-see what I’ve seen,” Harrison wrote. “I can’t deny what the BIBLE teaches…The spirit of religion has suffocated the life out of the church. And the spirit of fear and what men will say or think has suffocated the life out of Laura and I. You never realize how bound you are until you’re free.”

Harrison continued, “We WILL NOT go back to dead religion. If the BIBLE SAYS IT, we believe it.”

The film has already been slated for more showings on April 10 and 11 after a wide reception of people received deliverance and freedom at the theaters.

The Louisiana awakening is just one of many places where God is pouring out His Spirit today. In California, at least 20 gang members gave their lives to Christ at a Mario Murillo tent revival, and the effects of the Asbury revival continue to spread to other college campuses and churches. God is clearly setting the captives free and bringing in the harvest as we grow closer to the return of Jesus Christ. {eoa}
