Movieguide Rolls Out Android App
Movieguide just rolled out an Android app that aims to help people make decisions on the fly about what movie to see at the theater—or what flick to rent from Redbox.
“Millions of people have used Movieguide’s reviews online,” says Robert Baehr of Movieguide, who developed the app. “Now with these mobile apps, this data is literally a few clicks away on a smartphone.”
The Android mobile app follows the Movieguide iPhone app, giving users a quality rating and suggesting appropriate age levels for movies. The app also describes the content in terms of the amount of sex, nudity, foul language, violence, alcohol and drug use, and many other kinds of content.
Beyond these warning markers, Movieguide’s mobile apps point out the theological, political and ethical themes that run through the film. Based on over 30 years of rating movies and research, the database for the new app taps into more than 5,000 movie reviews.
