Proposed New York Bill Forces Schools to Teach Gender Identity by Elementary Level

A new bill, Senate Bill S2584A, introduced in the New York Senate and sponsored by Democrat Sen. Samra G. Brouk, could make comprehensive sex education compulsory to children as young as 5 in public and charter schools and force schools to teach kids about gender identity by the end of second grade.

The bill seeks to link the state’s schools to recommendations on sex education by the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States, described as a liberal-leaning interest group that advocates for “Sex Ed for Social Change.”

“Can one identify as younger than his bodily age?” asked Dr. Richard G. Howe, emeritus professor of philosophy and apologetics at Southern Evangelical Seminary. “If you can actually be called younger simply because you identify as such, this does not mean that you are actually younger. Yet any argument that the trans movement accepts that would demonstrate that truth would also militate against the trans argument that a man could objectively become female. Real psychological states do not prove something to be objectively true and real. The trans argument insists that one should not only be allowed to challenge that truism, but that such challenges should be codified and forced on others who do not share the trans opinion.

“Parents must be in charge of the fundamental education of their children even if they regard the public schools as the best means of achieving that end,” he continued. “We need to resist the effort of some special-interest groups to commandeer the public schools to force teaching issues in the schools that violate the fundamental moral principles of the parents of those children and the moral principles of a vast number of Americans who stand to suffer because of the deleterious effects these immoral and unsound views will have on American society. It is socially divisive and religiously oppressive inasmuch as it requires nearly half of the American population to accept a view that they strongly reject.”

Like 22 other states, New York currently does not have a statewide sex-education requirement, permitting local school districts to make that determination concerning curriculum.

SES offers the 15-hour certificate in philosophy, politics and economics. The PPE can also be used as a concentration within most master’s degrees (excluding M.A.R.). SES believes that one must minister to the present generation according to its needs, and to do so with truth and power, its students need training in the ethical, political and economic implications of the unchanging faith “once delivered to the saints” (Jude 3). This combination of PPE training and classical seminary education can be a potent one in combating the new heresies and false doctrines rooted in a secularist, progressivist worldview. {eoa}
