This Simple Teaching Could Spark a Nationwide Awakening for Christ
The song “Day by Day” has become sort of an anthem for ministry leader and author David Bryant. Bryant says lyrics of the song originated centuries ago in England by Robert, Bishop of Chichester, before being popularized by the musical Godspell. The chorus is simple, but the words, he says, are ones that believers should cling to every day of their lives.
It’s the foundation of Bryant’s book, Christ is Now, and his podcast, Christ Today, on the Charisma Podcast Network.
“The song starts out, ‘Day by day, day by day, oh dear Lord, three things I pray,'” Bryant told Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of Greenelines on CPN. “‘To see you more clearly. Love you more dearly. Follow you more nearly, day by day.’
“Through my ministry, those are the three things I am trying to teach—believers and non-believers alike, because they are so powerful. If they just see Jesus more clearly, which will turn them into a loving person daily, and that will motivate them to follow him more nearly wherever he wants to take them.
“You’ve got to want to have a deeper relationship with Christ, of course. What I try to teach is who Jesus Christ is today and who He is in your life today. Many of us are laboring for what I call a nationwide Christ awakening movement, where the church comes alive to Jesus in a whole new way. It’s more than just ordinary revival. It is a real awakening to the fullness and greatness and majesty and supremacy of Christ. It will be life transforming for individuals and for congregations. That’s what’s going to bring about spiritual reformation of the whole nation.”
