Chuck Colson Not Dead, News Reports Mistaken
The Chuck Colson Center for Christian Worldview is clarifying false reports that its founder, Chuck Colson, has passed away.
According to Alan Eason at the Chuck Colson Center for Christian Worldview, CBN erroneously reported that Colson had died. CBN told Charisma News the story was accidentally published. CBN retracted and apologized not only to the general public but to representatives of Colson for the error.
“The story was picked up by some local news outlets and word spread through Twitter that he had died,” Eason says. “That is not true. Chuck is still with us, although in grave condition. CBN pulled their post offline early Thursday morning and some media sources are sending out corrections.”
Colson is still in critical condition. Colson initially showed promising signs of recovery following a surgery on April 1 to remove a pool of clotted blood on the surface of his brain. Doctors found the clot after he fell ill during a speaking engagement.
But Jim Liske, CEO of Prison Fellowship, offered an update earlier this week: “Chuck’s condition took a decided turn [Wednesday], and the doctors advised Patty and the family to gather by his bedside.”
Colson was known as the White House “hatchet man,” a man feared by even the most powerful politicos during his four years of service to President Nixon.
When news of Colson’s conversion to Christianity leaked to the press in 1973, the Boston Globe reported, “If Mr. Colson can repent of his sins, there just has to be hope for everybody.”
