The nine justices ruled that Catholic Social Services’ biblical values and traditional view of marriage gives it the right to refuse unmarried as well as same-sex couples from its foster and adoption services. The city of Philadelphia had demanded that the agency violate its principles and accept same-sex couples or face termination of its foster care contract.

Rather than violate its values, Catholic Social Services sued the city, and the case worked its way up to the Supreme Court.

Rick Jewell told News Channel 8 that his son first noticed the man in distress. The highway was closed because of the incident, but Jewell located a path under a bridge. While trying to reach the site, he felt the Lord call him to go talk to the man and see what help he could offer. {eoa}
