The battleground over religious freedom in the workplace is more than just a plot line in God’s Not Dead 2—it’s substitute teacher Mary Simm’s reality.
Last month, Simms opted to show her students a Rick Warren TedTalk to contrast the curriculum’s James Joyce reading.
The Purpose Driven Life author barely addressed his religion in the video, Simms said. Yet the school district claims the video violated classroom policies.
“A substitute, and former public school teacher, allegedly showed a video in the classroom that was religious in nature and which deviated from the lesson plan created by the teacher of record and violated the policies of the Collierville Schools,” Collierville Schools Chief of Staff Russell Dyer said.
