Florida Governor Applauded for New Law Ensuring Students Learn About Communism Victims
American Family Association (AFA, www.AFA.net) commends Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida for signing the “Victims of Communism Day” bill that will require all high school students in the state-mandated U.S. Government class to be taught for at least 45 minutes about the evils of Marxism and communism.
Starting in 2023, students will by law learn about communist mass murderers like Mao Zedong (Tse-tung), responsible for more than 80 million deaths in China; Joseph Stalin, responsible for more than 30 million in the Soviet Union, including 4-5 million intentionally starved in Ukraine; Pol Pot, who slaughtered one in every five Cambodians; and the tens of thousands murdered by Fidel Castro in Cuba and Venezuela’s Chavismo movement.
AFA’s Executive Vice President, Ed Vitagliano, said the legislation ensuring such honest instruction in the true history of communism is most welcome news.
“A law like this one signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis is a major step in the right direction. Children must be taught that not only is Marxism a failed ideology but a dangerous one. The death toll from communist regimes and the additional human suffering caused by them is a tragedy unmatched by any other scourge suffered by humanity. Once again, Florida is among those states leading the nation in proposing and passing laws that strengthen the foundational principles of our republic. There’s not only pleasant weather in the Sunshine State, there’s sanity.” {eoa}
