Holy Land Experience Ministries Sold to Orlando Health Care Giant for $32 Million
Holy Land Experience Ministries Inc., a 14-acre entity on Vineland Road just off I-4 in Orlando, Florida, and related to California-based theme park operator and landowner Trinity Broadcasting Network, has been sold to Central Florida health care giant AdventHealth for $32 million, according to documents filed by Orange County, Florida.
WFTV.com in Orlando reported that the deal closed Aug. 2. Orlandoweekly.com reported that the properties, at the time of the sale, had an assessed value of $70.6 million.
Bible-based theme park The Holy Land Experience closed early in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It reopened for two days in April for free admission days, but has been closed ever since.
Mynews13.com in Orlando reported that, prior to the pandemic closure, the attraction scaled back on a number of its offerings to “shift its focus away from entertainment and back to its original plan and function. In the process, it laid off 118 employees.
In a statement Thursday, AdventHealth said it will redevelop the property and will share site plans at a later date, mynews.com13 reported.
“AdventHealth will make a significant investment in redeveloping the property to bring enhanced health care services to the community,” the statement read. “Details on our site plans will be released in the future. Orlando continues to be one of the fastest growing regions in the country, and it’s important that residents have access to health care that’s close to home, convenient and comprehensive.”
TBN, one of the world’s largest Christian broadcasters, took over an $8 million debt as part of an estimated $37 million deal to purchase Holy Land Experience Ministries Inc. in 2007, Orlandoweekly.com reported. TBN has operated the theme park attraction since.
Messianic Jewish organization Zion’s Hope first opened the park in 2001, but suffered early financial setbacks and debts mounted as attendance declined. {eoa}
