Sarah Palin Threatens Rapper With Lawsuit After Twitter Battle
Sarah Palin told People magazine that she would sue rapper Azealia Banks after a series of incendiary tweets between the two women.
The incident was triggered by Banks, who was allegedly angered after reading a misattributed quote from Sarah Palin (Banks later learned and admitted the quotation came from a satirical news source). Banks took to social media, where she implied that Palin ought to be sexually assaulted by black men, among other profane things. The tweets have since been deleted.
Palin responded on Facebook, “Hey Female Rapper – listen up, little darling. No one has any idea what you’re wigging out about in these bizarre, violent rants against me, but you’re obviously not exercising enough intelligence to acknowledge you’ve been sucked into believing some fake interview in which I supposedly offered comments representing the antithesis of my truth.”
And in a statement to People magazine, Palin said she would “enjoy the only retribution some protected ‘celebrities’ seem to understand—I’m suing Azealia Banks and can’t wait to share my winnings with others who have gone defenseless against lies and dangerous attacks far too long.”
Banks then apologized to Palin in a now deleted Tumblr letter, saying, “There is something very charismatic and misunderstood about you. The misunderstood bit oftentimes reminds me of myself. You’re very passionate about the things you believe in, super determined, and most certainly aware of who you are and where you stand in this world, as a parent, as a politician, but most importantly, as a woman.”
Banks clarified that though her jokes were crude, she did not intend to trivialize rape. However, in the same letter, she also insinuated Palin was a racist, made a jab at Palin’s daughter Bristol and went on a brief tangent criticizing right-wing media. Palin has not yet issued another response.
Should Palin turn the other cheek or does she have a right to sue? Let us know in the comments section.
