Influx of Relocated Migrants Shocks Vice President Harris, Martha’s Vineyard
The “battle of the border” continues as Republican governors send busloads of migrants to Democratic run cities.
Republican governors Abbott (TX) and DeSantis (FL) have sent excess migrants, which they claim are overwhelming their states’ infrastructures, to both Vice President Kamala Harris’ Naval Observatory residence and Martha’s Vineyard.
Governor Abbott began bussing migrants out of Texas to help alleviate border towns suffering from the ongoing border crisis. Called “Operation Lone Star,” the governor is taking Democratic mayors at their word when they have declared their cities as “Sanctuary Cities.”
Faced with the reality and consequences of an open border, and fewer migrants than border towns are dealing with, Democratic mayors are incensed at this brazen challenge to their policies they once touted.
Mayor Muriel Bowser (D-D.C.), repeated her stance on Washington D.C. being a sanctuary city after the 2016 election:
“The values, laws and policies of Washington, D.C. did not change on Election Day. We celebrate our diversity and respect all D.C. residents no matter their immigration status. We are a sanctuary city because we know that our neighborhoods are safer and stronger when no one is afraid to call on our government for help, and when our police can focus on protecting and serving.”
Despite this claim, Mayor Bowser twice has called for the National Guard to deal with the influx of migrants, and has declared a public emergency:
“So, it’s been said, but it’s worth reiterating, that the governors of Texas and Arizona have created this crisis. And, the federal government has not stepped up to assist the District of Columbia,” she explained. “So, we, along with our regional partners, we’ll do what we’ve always done. We’ll rise to the occasion.”
This declaration allows for the creation of the Office of Migrant Services, which will help provide medical care, transportation and temporary living spaces for migrants in the city.
The mayors of New York and Chicago have also condemned Gov. Abbott for sending migrants to their sanctuary cities. Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot even condemned Abbott’s Christianity and alleged he’s a racist for sending migrants to Chicago. Mayor Lightfoot was then caught bussing migrants back out of Chicago to a Republican-led suburb. This caused widespread condemnation for her and the governor of Illinois for the hypocrisy of their actions.
Adding to the call for Congress to address the unsecure border is Florida governor DeSantis, who recently sent two planeloads of migrants to Martha’s Vineyard, home to progressive celebrities such as Spike Lee, James Taylor, the Obamas and more. DeSantis hopes to send a message to the elites who helped cause this border crisis: Fix it or else. The DeSantis team released a statement regarding the relocated migrants:
“Yes, Florida can confirm the two planes with illegal immigrants that arrived in Martha’s Vineyard today were part of the state’s relocation program to transport illegal immigrants to sanctuary destinations,” an official for DeSantis’ office said. “States like Massachusetts, New York and California will better facilitate the care of these individuals who they have invited into our country by incentivizing illegal immigration through their designation as ‘sanctuary states’ and support for the Biden Administration’s open border policies.”
Caught in the middle are the migrants who are hoping to find a better life. When asked by Fox News Digital at Vice President Harris’ residence, multiple migrants said that they thought the border for the United States was open.
This begs the question of who exactly told them that, and how did information like that spread?
For many Christians, this situation is a quagmire of personal convictions regarding what the Bible says. Do they house the foreigner in their land and provide them with food (Lev. 19:33-34; Deut. 10:18-19)? Paul writes about how the laws of a government must be honored (Rom. 13:1-14; 1 Peter 2:13-17)? How should Christians take action when the government is in the middle?
Nothing is stopping charities and missions from reaching out to these people in search of a better life. Yes, they have broken American law with their actions, even under the assumption the border was open, but the Bible does not say to disregard them because of that.
While the political parties of this country may be at each other’s throats, Christians can use this crisis as an opportunity to show the grace, love and mercy of Jesus Christ that resides in their hearts. {eoa}
