4-Year-Old Wants a Sex Change—And the Parents Are Complying
A 4-year-old child wants a sex change, and the child’s parents want to comply, according to reports.
Few details have been released to protect the child’s identity, but Australian media report the move has been lauded by the Safe Schools Programme, despite psychologists’ warnings.
“There is a huge difference between dress-ups and a child believing with every fiber of their being they are in the wrong body,” child psychologist Michael Carr-Gregg told The Daily Telegraph.
The Australian case is not the first reported child who wants to transition well before puberty.
A Texas mother reportedly wants her transgender kindergartner to use the girls’ restroom
“Please understand I’m not fighting about bathrooms. I’m fighting about her life, I’m fighting about her well-being, I’m fighting for her happiness, I’m fighting for her future,” Kim Shappley told the school board, according to KPRC.
“Every person that has a degree who has studied this says that it is wrong to tell my child for anyone to tell my child that she cannot use the facility that aligns with the gender she identifies with,” she said.
But according to the American College of Pediatricians, allowing a child to transition from one gender to another is child abuse.
“Endorsing gender discordance as normal via public education and legal policies will confuse children and parents, leading more children to present to ‘gender clinics’ where they will be given puberty-blocking drugs. This, in turn, virtually ensures that they will ‘choose’ a lifetime of carcinogenic and otherwise toxic cross-sex hormones, and likely consider unnecessary surgical mutilation of their healthy body parts as young adults,” Michelle A. Cretella, M.D., writes.
