ISIS Demands Christians Convert or Die—But This Might Not Be Where You Think
While Islamic State threats against Christians in occupied territory may have become commonplace, the terrorist organization appears to actively be stalking Assyrian Christians in Europe.
Pizzeria owners in Sweden—who happen to be Assyrian Christians—awoke one morning to a violent threat inscribed on their wall: “Convert or die.”
The incident is just the latest in a string of threats against refugees.
According to an English translation of the Gothenburg Post, there are nearly 10,000 Assyrians in the Swedish city, which is also an Islamic State recruitment base.
“It feels extremely uncomfortable that this has come to Gothenburg, Sweden. There is no doubt that it is directed at me as Christians and Assyrians,” pizzeria owner Yusuf Asmar tells the GP. “It feels like persecution of Jews in the 30th century when Jews in Germany had Stars of David painted on its doors. Now it happens here.”
Another restaurant owner, Markus Samuelsson, reportedly discovered the same threat on his walls.
“I felt a sudden chill down my spine,” Samuelsson said of when he saw the graffiti. “It’s terribly painful. We feel threatened.”
At least 150 jihadis—more than from the United States—are believed to have left Gothenburg to join ISIS, according to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet.
