Sign of the Times: Robot Preacher Now Blessing Parishioners
Need a blessing? Just stop by some European churches, select your language and let a robot encourage you.
If it resonates, you can even print it out and take it home, courtesy of the “BlessU 2” robot.
“It is an experiment that is supposed to inspire discussion,” church spokesman Sebastian von Gehren says.
The robot made its debut in the same city where Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the church door. Von Gehren, of Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau, says the robot was consciously constructed to not evoke a typical human appearance.
As for those being blessed, “one half thinks it’s great” while “the other cannot imagine a blessing from a machine,” Von Gehren says.
Is the robot a modern way to share God’s Word, or is it replacing pastors?
