Huckabee-Endorsed Pastor Candidate Passes First Test in Bid for Iowa State Seat
Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee endorsed Pastor Brad Sherman for Iowa State House District 91 last December saying, “Brad became one of my most trusted friends during the time that I spent in Iowa. He’s a ‘conviction conservative’ and not a ‘convenient conservative’. His adherence to biblical standards and Constitutional law is authentic and lifelong. He has a brilliant mind but is a humble and compassionate servant of Christ and all people.”
Pastor Sherman won the Iowa District 91 Republican Primary [against five other candidates] on June 7, with a whopping 55% of the total vote. As the race heated up the pastor’s message began to resonate and catch fire: “For the first time in our lives, my wife and I are seriously wondering if our grandchildren will grow up in a free country! Government at every level seems to have forgotten its purpose as enshrined in the Declaration of Independence: Our rights come from God, not government, and the purpose of government is to protect those rights.”
Due to the fact that there must be a fixed point, a fundament, for judgment to base itself on, Scripture was placed front and center in early America, both culturally and politically as well as morally and spiritually. The spectacular rise of America was directly linked to the Bible and fidelity to God’s Word and His never-ending order. However, over the last 100 years secularism has sidetracked American Christendom by moving the house/nation away from the rock on which it was built to the sand on which it stands now, in complete ignorance of the warning issued in Matthew 7:24-27.
Today “spiritual” worship is concentrated around the golden calves of multiculturalism, political correctness and secularism. Cultural Marxism has quickly taken hold as unelected National Education Association bureaucrats, Blue state power elites, Big Tech, Hollywood and Big Pharma incessantly beat the drum extolling the virtues and articles of faith pertaining to secular religion, such as diversity, cancel culture, inclusivity, wokism, race equity, gender pronoun sophistry, transgenderism, sexual orientation and ethnicity.
Secularism debases and distorts the culture by celebrating wickedness, provoking instability, fomenting division, inflaming political upheaval and indoctrinating children through public education to hate America and hate each other. Thus, we have a society torn apart by suspicion, division and strife.
This manifests itself among others in the ever-increasing dissonant smattering of consonants with now some additional vowels narcissistically depicting anomalies and aberrations unfettered by biological reality.
Noelle Mering, author of the apposite book for the times we live in, Awake, Not Woke: A Christian Response to the Cult of Progressive Ideology, says that “we have to realize that there is a deeper human longing that people have, a longing that won’t be satisfied by a thin ideology that has to be propped up by coercion, by silencing, by fear and by manipulation. It is a longing that can only be fulfilled by the fullness of truth, a willingness to embrace the truth no matter where it leads you, scientific truth, philosophical truth, theological truth. And most of all the truth of who we are in relationship to a loving God, a loving Father. That’s what the human heart longs for, it is something that cannot be fulfilled by ideology.”
Thomas Steven Molnar [1921-2010], Catholic philosopher, historian, political theorist and author of over 40 books in French and English, published on a variety of subjects including religion, politics, and education, catalogs the digression: “Soon after political power emancipates itself from spiritual authority it loses its own stability and, in short order, its legitimacy. The downward trend cannot be arrested. Individualism then anarchy appear as the natural consequence.”
At what point do we get back to simply being American without a hyphen? African-American, Asian-American, Mexican-American, Anglo-American, Irish-American and so on. Let’s put an end to this. Let’s design a New American Majority—not a Republican majority, not a Democrat majority nor an Independent majority. Let’s begin to plan, think and act for an American majority.
In that light, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich published a white paper last week that grew out of four years of research, entitled Restoring the America that Works with the Support of the New American Majority.
“The emerging New American Majority requires base-broadening rather than base mobilization strategies. As the data shows, there is a vastly larger majority emerging than Republicans have been used to appealing to for the last 90 years. Reaching all of that majority requires new thinking about policy development, language, scheduling and coalition building.
“The current crises of the American system from failing education to baby formula shortages to rising crime rates to surging gasoline, diesel and heating oil prices to an open and uncontrolled border to an assault on American values by a Big Government Socialist-woke left coalition requires big solutions. The solutions require broad support to force change on a hostile establishment and sustain it despite vicious and ferocious attacks.
“This concept of an America that works expresses itself in a common set of core values that unites 70% to 90% of voters. Those in the New American Majority strongly believe leadership and principles guided by these values will restore an America that works for all Americans.
For example:
- 91% agree with Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. that the content of our character should matter more than the color of our skin.
- 91% favor equal treatment regardless of race when it comes to education, jobs, health care and government services.
- 88% of Americans agree that America is a good country.
- 84% believe the founding ideals of America are something worth fighting for.
- 84% believe that parents should be able to see all curriculum plans and material for classes their children take.
- 83% prefer to identify themselves as Americans rather than by their racial or ethnic backgrounds.
- 79% believe that people who believe in the values found in the Bible have the right to express them publicly.
- 75% agree that there are only two genders, male and female.”
On January 27, 1838, 28-year-old Abraham Lincoln gave a speech to the Young Men’s Lyceum in Springfield, Illinois, which became one of the future president’s earliest published works. Its relevance in the mid-19th century is analogous in some ways to the current challenges facing America.
He said: “We found ourselves the legal inheritors of these fundamental blessings. We toiled not in the … establishment of them—they are a legacy bequeathed us, by a once hardy, brave and patriotic, but now lamented and departed race of ancestors … At what point shall we expect the approach of danger?
“I answer, if it ever reaches us, it must spring up amongst us … If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide.”
With secularism at the wheel, America, like the Israel of Deuteronomy 32:28 (NIV), is “a nation without sense, there is no discernment in them.” It has become a nation rapidly heading toward the crushing depths of the Niagara falls. Secularists excel in both teaching kids to hate their country and each other, and that reality can be whatever you want it to be. Freedom and liberty, said George Washington, are derived through the “indispensable supports” of religion and morality, and hence cannot be acquired through secularism.
Thankfully, Gideons and Rahabs are beginning to rise, for light lays bare darkness. {eoa}
