Why America Can’t Escape Its State of Perpetual Gaslighting

On Friday, June 24, 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the profoundly flawed landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that bestowed on women the “constitutional right” to kill innocent human beings in utero.

Authoring the majority opinion, Justice Samuel Alito wrote: “The Constitution makes no reference to abortion, and no such right is implicitly protected by any constitutional provision, including the one on which the defenders of Roe and Casey now chiefly rely—the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.”

Chief Justice John Roberts added that “the viability line established by Roe and Casey should be discarded under a straightforward state decided analysis. That line never made any sense.”

From day one it was clear that Roe v. Wade was on a collision course with the Constitution. The 7-2 ruling in 1973 was simply “an exaltation of policy-making” by seven unelected and unaccountable justices imposing their personal religious views and values through the mechanism of judicial fiat.

As Justice Alito wrote: “Wielding nothing but ‘raw judicial power,’ the Court usurped the power to address a question of profound moral and social importance that the Constitution unequivocally leaves for the people.”

The battle over abortion now moves to the states. Enormous pressure is about to be applied to the executive, legislative and judicial branches of state and local government in all 50 states. Success or failure will be determined by grassroots, precinct-level organizing. This is why the Left believes that Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health will galvanize their voters in the fall.

Evangelical and pro-life Catholic Christians must now bring into service their political currency, which should include answers to such important questions as “How many votes can you bring to the table?” and “How much money can you generate that brings votes to the table?” Christians are going to need much less talk and a lot more action.

Politico reported on the lengths to which progressives and the Biden administration are willing to go: “The White House is weighing some extraordinary executive actions if and when the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, including declaring a national public health emergency. The administration is bracing [read: fueling] for political mass unrest in the wake of the ruling.

“Involved in the discussions and strategy, the ideas under consideration range from small and likely (having the FTC tell menstrual tracking apps to warn users about data privacy) to big and risky (having abortion doctors perform the procedure [read: kill preborn children] at military bases in red states).”

“Night Of Rage” flyers began popping up last week across Washington, D.C., and the Capitol ahead of the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Global Community Weekly reported that the call for violence by the Left is what mainstream media and Big Tech’s Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google and Twitter inevitably will describe as “mostly peaceful.”

This, in turn, raises once again the questions asked in the fall of 2020 as Antifa and BLM torched American cities: Who’s coordinating and underwriting the looting and burning of America’s cities? Which players, domestic or foreign, are instigating, underwriting and orchestrating anarchy in the streets of America?

America currently lives in a state of perpetual gaslighting. Gaslighting is an activity designed to cause a person (in this case, a nation) to doubt its sanity through the use of psychological manipulation by whitewashing events. “Peaceful protest” is the false and willfully misleading term applied to current subversive activity where thugs vandalize and loot stores, burn American cities, smash windows, set fire to cars and foment widespread, systemic violations of law.

In a press conference last Friday, President Biden lamented that the Court ended what he claimed “was a correct decision” and that it “expressly took away a constitutional right from the American people that it had already recognized.”

The president might want to be reminded of another Supreme Court 7-2 decision as notoriously bad as Roe v. Wade in terms of consequences. In its 1857 Dred Scott v. Sandford ruling, the Supreme Court stated that enslaved people were not citizens of the United States and, therefore, could not expect any protection from the federal government or the courts. The decision incensed abolitionists, gave momentum to the anti-slavery movement and served as a stepping-stone to the Civil War.

Both Roe v. Wade and Dred Scott v. Sandford were demonstrably dreadful, immoral, illegal and expressly “legal fiction” involving “policymaking rather than neutral legal analysis.”

“For many Americans, Roe is a symptom of and catalyst for a continuing decline in American culture and institutions. It represents a tragic failure of the government, an abdication of its duty to defend the vulnerable and innocent. The judicially created regime permitting abortion on request throughout pregnancy has eroded principles on which this nation was founded—the sanctity of life, the equal dignity of all, and impartial justice. Even the fundamental principle of self-government is shaken when seven unelected judges can overturn the will of the people expressed in the laws of 50 states. And how does one begin to assess the meaning and impact of destroying over 40 million children?” [This was written in 2003; the number of total abortions in the period 1973-2021 has reached a dreadful 63,459,781, according to National Right to Life Committee data.]

As to President Biden’s “having abortion doctors perform the procedure at military bases in red states,” he is simply showing his true colors, or more accurately, his complete lack of character. On election night, November 3, 2020, he thundered any which way about “putting the harsh rhetoric of the campaign behind us, to lower the temperature, to see each other again, to listen to one another, to hear each other again and respect and care for one another, to unite, to heal, to come together as a nation and stop treating our opponents as enemies.”

We now recognize his rhetoric as just another ungodly charade, a deliberate trickery intended to gain a political advantage.

According to J.C. Ryle’s commentary on John 19, “The high-minded claim to absolute power is one which ungodly great men are fond of making. It is written of Nebuchadnezzar [the evil Babylonian King], ‘Whom he would he slew; and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he set up, and whom he would he put down’ (Daniel 5:19). Yet even when such men boast of power, they are often like [Pontius] Pilate, mere slaves, and afraid of resisting popular opinion. Pilate talked of ‘power to release’; but he knew in his own mind that he was afraid, and so unable to exercise it.”

This past Wednesday, Intercessors for America’s prayer call featured the Washington Post article that highlighted the 50 North Carolina pastors and spiritual leaders who ran for local office last month on May 17.

“The American Renewal Project,” said host Kris Kubal, “was founded to give greater currency to the principles laid down by the American Founders. The Project’s mission is to minister to people of faith in their transition from spectators to participants in the cultural arena, with emphasis being placed on religion and morality, the cornerstones of freedom. Getting people off the bench, out of the pews, and into action.”

Gideons and Rahabs are beginning to come forward.
