US Pro-Life Leader Troy Newman Jailed for His Faith
It’s a shame that in today’s world, a country can deny a visit from peaceful persons from other nations, even when a guest is invited by one of the country’s own citizens.
That’s what’s happening in Australia. Let’s not confuse this situation with the current immigration wars. We’re talking about a peaceful visit, not an attempt at illegal entry.
Here’s the situation: Troy Newman of the pro-life activist group Operation Rescue was invited to visit Australia for a 10-day speaking tour by Australia Right to Life. En route Newman found out that his visa has been cancelled by the Minister of Immigration, Peter Dutton, at the request of a pro-abortion Member of Parliament, Terri Butler.
Butler alleges that Newman is an activist that advocates violence against abortion providers. Nothing could be further from the truth. I have known Newman for many years and have witnessed his dedication to ending abortion through peaceful means, using the law to reign in a lawless industry. Through Operation Rescue, he and Cheryl Sullenger’s investigative works have exposed many abortionists and abortion centers that are operating outside the law.
Newman is no stranger to adversity. He has faced many trials in his work fighting for the unborn, and I’m sure this will not be his last. Newman is a prayerful, faith-filled man who relies on strength and direction from God.
As James 1:2-4 says: “My brothers, count it all joy when you fall into diverse temptations, knowing that the trying of your faith develops patience. But let patience perfect its work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.”
Australia is fining him thousands of dollars in restitution! They’re charging for a stay in jail, court fees—anything and everything they can pin on Newman.
Let’s cut to the chase here. Operation Rescue is being penalized for fighting for life. This fine is effectively a massive pro-life tax.
Let’s join Newman in prayer as he faces yet another trial of faith. May God continue to grant him the love, faith, grace and wisdom to persevere yet again, coming closer and closer, going from victory to victory in the goal to glorify Christ for life.
