A New Week, a New Email Scandal for Hillary Clinton

It’s long been speculated that Hillary Clinton’s unsecured home-based email server, upon which she sent and received classified material, could have put the lives of CIA assets at jeopardy.

Now, it seems, there is proof that’s exactly what happened.

During an appearance on CBS’ Face the Nation, U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) said Clinton’s emails included references to an Iranian nuclear scientist who was recently executed for treason. He said Shahram Amiri, who gave information to the U.S. about Iran’s nuclear program, was compromised and that it demonstrated Clinton’s inability to keep the nation secure.

“I’m not going to comment on what he may or may not have done for the United States government, but in the emails that were on Hillary Clinton’s private server, there were conversations among her senior advisers about this gentleman,” he said. “That goes to show just how reckless and careless her decision was to put that kind of highly classified information on a private server. And I think her judgment is not suited to keep this country safe.”

According to emails now made public as a result of the investigations into Clinton’s unclassified private email system, Amiri was openly discussed. Those emails reveal that Amirir was definitely a defector who became fearful about the fate of his family and returned home with a story of CIA abduction, torture and interrogation.

Initially, he was welcomed back to Iran as a hero. But, at some point in 2011, while Clinton was still using her “home brew” email server, the Iranians suddenly did an about-face, charging him with treason.

It doesn’t take rocket science—or a degree in computer forensics—to figure out what happened. Somehow, and probably not with the help of the Russians, the emails that prove Amiri cooperated with the U.S. emerged.

Had Clinton used a classified and encrypted State Department email system, it seems entirely likely that Amiri would be alive today. His execution was confirmed by the Iranian government on Sunday.

The statement referred to the United States as “[Iran’s] hostile and No. 1 enemy” and “the Great Satan.”

This newest revelation comes just one week after Clinton made a bizarre statement about a “short circuit” while discussing her email server with FOX News Channel’s Chris Wallace. During that interview, she appeared to suggest the FBI confirmed she had been truthful about her email server—a claim that earned a number of rebukes from fact checkers—even those of mainstream media outlets.
