Donald Trump Makes a Good Point About Hillary’s Emails
The Donald Trump campaign released a 1-2 punch Monday afternoon, piling on congressional Republicans’ charges that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton committed perjury.
“Did Hillary Clinton lie to the FBI?” the email asks. “It appears she did not tell the truth to the FBI about her private email use.”
The point in question is whether or not former Secretary of State Colin Powell suggested she use a private email server. According to several reports, she made the claim to the FBI, but Powell tells a different story, saying he never spoke to her about email until about a year after she began using her private server.
“Her people have been trying to pin it on me,” Powell told People Magazine during a party in the Hamptons over the weekend.
Only one of the two statements can be true. If Powell is correct—and there’s little reason to believe he would lie—then Clinton lied to the FBI. As FBI Director James Comey pointed out during his testimony with the House Oversight & Government Reform Committee, that is a federal felony.
Clinton is already facing an investigation for making false statements while under oath before Congress.
