Susan B. Anthony List: Trump Slammed Clinton’s Abortion Extremism

Donald Trump’s historic defense of life didn’t go entirely unnoticed. Susan B. Anthony List, one of the nation’s most prominent pro-life organizations, hailed him in a statement following Wednesday night’s debate.

“For the first time Hillary Clinton was pressed to own up to the fact that there is not one circumstance in which she would protect the right to life of an unborn child—even a baby who is moments from birth,” SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser said. “Donald Trump described well the horror of partial-birth abortion, a brutal procedure once used for late-term abortions. Clinton defended her vote to protect this procedure confirming her view that unborn children have no rights up until birth.

“It is confirmed: Clinton supports unlimited abortion on-demand. She only left out her pledge to repeal the longstanding, bipartisan Hyde Amendment, which has for decades protected the conscience rights of taxpayers by preventing taxpayer funding of elective abortion through Medicaid.

“Clinton’s position on abortion is wildly out of step with the majority of Americans who support a compassionate limit on abortion after five months and who do not want their tax dollars used to pay for abortion on-demand. In pressing Clinton to state her opinion about the reality of the abortion procedure, Donald Trump did a service to all Americans. On this issue, the contrast between the two candidates could not be more clear.”

A Marist poll released in July found that 62 percent of Americans oppose taxpayer funding of abortion. Among women, it was 63 percent, and among those who say they are “pro-choice,” it was 45 percent.

Among Democrats, it was 44 percent.

Additional national polling by Quinnipiac, National Journal, Huffington Post, NBC/Wall Street Journal and Washington Post/ABC News have similarly found that at least a plurality of Americans support limiting abortion after 5 months gestation. Women generally support a ban on late-term abortions in higher proportions than men.

“SBA List’s canvassing team of nearly 700 pro-life activists has already hit more than 860,000 doors to defeat Hillary Clinton and Senate candidates in the battleground states of Florida, North Carolina and Ohio,” communications director Mallory Quigley said. “This independent campaign is a joint effort of SBA List and its super PAC, Women Speak Out.”
