The Christian Vote Counts in This Election

Charisma founder Steve Strang visited the set of The Jim Bakker Show to discuss the 2016 presidential election, and specifically Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

While he pointed the audience to pastor Lance Wallnau’s suggestion that Trump’s rise was similar to that of Cyrus in the Old Testament, co-host Zach Drew made an analogy to British Prime Minister Winston Churchill during World War II. But, they were each making the same point: The New York businessman was made to lead in times like these.

“[Cyrus] was a Persian king who is not a believer, who’s the one that sent the Jewish people back to Jerusalem,” Strang said. “Do you remember that? God used a non-Jew—a non-believer—to do His plans and purposes. And [Wallnau] said that he believes the Trump is Cyrus, and everybody made fun of him when he said that.

“Now it wasn’t real high-profile, but you know in certain circles people making fun of him. But it looks like that is what’s happening. Could God—could God use a non-believer for His plans and purposes? I believe the answer is ‘Yes,’ and we have biblical precedent with Cyrus in the Old Testament.”

Drew immediately piped in with his own take:

“Nobody could argue, ‘Did God use Winston Churchill?’ You know you could really pinpoint the turning of World War II to Winston Churchill. Now was he a Christian or not? There’s a lot of debate on that, but did God use him? It’s clear that God used him …

“You see right now we are in a war in America. Whether we realize it or not, we are in a war. Ecclesiastes even says that ‘there is a time for everything’ there’s ‘a time for war’ and there’s ‘a time for peace.’ You do not want a peaceful leader in a time of war, and you don’t want a war-minded leader in a time of peace.

“You see, historically speaking, Winston Churchill wasn’t a very good leader in times of peace. Why? Because he was made for a time of war, and I believe that’s Donald Trump.”

Strang noted that “we all have a sphere of influence,” and it was incumbent upon Christians to spread the word to their friends and neighbors within their individual spheres of influence to encourage them to vote. This election is important, he added.

“We’ve got to get the word out that this election is important,” he said. “We’ve got to go to the polls. A lot of Christians stay home. They think, ‘My vote’s not gonna count and I don’t feel good voting one way or the other so I will solve my problem by doing nothing.’

“That is not a solution to anything. I believe that the Christian vote is going to make the difference in this election. And, as we’re taping this, it is very, very close.”
