CUFI Founder Pastor John Hagee: Support for Israel Was the ‘Hidden Issue’ of the 2016 Election

During an interview last week with Newsmax TV’s Joe Pagliarulo, Pastor John Hagee of Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, Texas, weighed in with his answer to question on most media outlets’ No. 1 question: How did Donald Trump win the election?

Support for Israel, the founder of Christians United For Israel said, was the “hidden issue” that drove evangelicals to the polls in overwhelming numbers for the president-elect. Democrats didn’t bring it up, but Republicans—led by Vice President-Elect Mike Pence, who visited Israel with CUFI two years ago, and Trump—made standing with Israel a central piece of their election campaign.

“I also believe that abortion had something to do with it, but Israel was the main issue that drove the people that we know to vote like they had never voted before,” he said. “[O]ur base was ignited from coast to coast, waiting to pull the lever for someone who would stand up in support for Israel. …

“Donald Trump said something that this was a movement. Actually, I think God in heaven was watching this election.

“And the wind of heaven caught fire that he who keep of Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps stirred the evangelicals to get out and go vote—and they stormed the voting booth to have a change in America.”

As a result, Hagee said, the people of Israel know the election result was a “direct blessing from heaven.” It was heaven answering their prayer, he added.
