Dr. Jerry Newcombe: Nancy Pelosi Accidentally Told the Truth
In a recent commentary, Christian TV producer Dr. Jerry Newcombe, a key archivist of the D. James Kennedy Legacy Library, wrote that, “sometimes the mask comes off, and people are just honest about what they really think.”
He wrote those comments in response to U.S. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who made comments about “the three G’s” during the Democratic National Convention last month. She was discussing the vote of white non-college-educated men when she said they “vote against their own economic interests,” but Newcombe said he disagrees.
“I think the opposite is true,” he wrote. “The policies of the Democratic Party have been disastrous for our recovery. But Pelosi went on to say the reason they vote this way are ‘because of guns, because of gays, and because of God. The three Gs, God being the woman’s right to choose.’
“Well, there it is. Pelosi said something we all instinctively know: To be pro-abortion is anti-God.”
Newcombe went back farther into the Pelosi Way Back Machine to find earlier comments she made about Democratic policies. During a Catholic Community Conference on Capitol Hill in May of 2010, she said the policies she advocates are “in keeping with the values of” The Word—Jesus:
And that Word is, we have to give voice to what that means in terms of public policy that would be in keeping with the values of the Word. The Word. Isn’t it a beautiful word when you think of it? It just covers everything. The Word.
Fill it in with anything you want. But, of course, we know it means: ‘The Word was made flesh and dwelt amongst us.’ And that’s the great mystery of our faith. He will come again. He will come again. So, we have to make sure we’re prepared to answer in this life, or otherwise, as to how we have measured up.
Newcombe took her to task for that, as well.
“I am amazed at this,” he wrote. “She admits that Jesus is coming again, and we’ll have to answer to Him. And yet she brazenly clings to her pro-abortion stance despite this (she claims because of it).
“If we take her remarks at face value, then she is telling us Jesus would sanction abortion. As a student of Scripture and a follower of Jesus, the Son of David, I don’t see how that could be.”
Newcombe then referenced Psalm 139, the book of Jeremiah, and the Gospel of Luke for evidence of the biblical position on when life begins. He then noted the “tragic” fact that the pro-abortion lobby pours enormous amounts of money into American politics.
“I really do wish Nancy Pelosi’s policies were truly impacted by the Word of God,” he concluded. “When I see the legislation she pushes for, including all the pro-abortion laws—just as one example—I just have to wonder: Why is she so pro-abortion, when she knows God opposes it?”
