ICYMI: Campaigns, Debates and Issues … Oh My!
In case you missed it, the Sunday morning talk shows this past weekend featured a lot of candidates talking about the big news events of the past week: the Republican and Democratic presidential debates. And, like in the debates, there was a lot discussion about foreign policy and national security.
ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos
ABC’s Sunday morning talker focused on the Democratic presidential candidates’ attacks on Donald Trump, which resulted in a feisty exchange between Trump—who was on the show to respond—and the host. Chris Christie discussed his strategy going forward to win the GOP nomination, and Bernie Sanders discussed his debate performance.
CBS’s Face the Nation
CBS’s Sunday morning politics program released the latest CBS/YouGov Battleground Tracker polls out of Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina. Republican presidential candidates Marco Rubio and Jeb Bush were interviewed about the state of the 2016 presidential race—eliciting an eyebrow-raising claim from Bush that he “hated being the front-runner.”
NBC’s Meet the Press
NBC’s signature Sunday morning program explored Donald Trump’s campaign strategy, which doesn’t include blanketing the early voting states. Bernie Sanders was interviewed about his “Commander-in-Chief qualifications.” House Speaker Paul Ryan sat down for an exclusive end-of-year interview.
FOX News Sunday with Chris Wallace
FOX’s Sunday program featured a one-on-one interview with Carly Fiorina to discuss Hillary Clinton and how she is going to fight for the GOP nomination in the final weeks before the voting begins in Iowa. The panel then critiqued President Obama’s strategy to combat ISIS, and discussed the GOP presidential race going into the Christmas holiday.
