Irony or Revenge? Dr. Drew’s Show Canceled After He Questions Hillary Clinton’s Health
Celebrity internist “Dr. Drew” Pinsky announced Friday his program on CNN’s Headline News channel was being canceled. The last episode will air next month.
Pinsky, who also hosts a radio program, had called into question Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s health, as well as the medical care she was receiving to address her reported health issues. His concerns, which further fueled reports about the former secretary of state’s condition, were made public earlier this week.
The timing of the announcement spurred rumors that the two were connected. But officials with Time Warner, the parent company of CNN and HLN, said the cancellation was part of a planned revamping of the latter’s programming.
“It has been a privilege working at HLN,” Pinsky said about the show. “My executive producer Burt Dubrow and our outstanding staff and contributors were consistently exceptional. I am very excited to stay within the CNN Worldwide family as a contributor.”
The final episode of Dr. Drew on Call will air on Sept. 22, ending a five-year run.
“Dr. Drew and his team have delivered more than five years of creative shows and I want to thank them for their hard work and distinctive programming,” HLN executive vice president Ken Jautz said in a statement. “Their audience-driven shows, in particular, were innovative and memorable TV. And Dr. Drew has been an authoritative voice on addiction and on many other topical issues facing America today.”
