Report: Attorney to File Lawsuit in Seth Rich Murder Case
Jack Burkman, an anti-Trump Republican lobbyist in Washington, D.C.—who is also a lawyer by profession—has become a central figure in the bizarre, ongoing investigation of former Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich’s murder.
Having put up more than $100,000 of his own money toward the reward fund for information leading to an arrest and conviction, the attorney has been pushing a “the Russians did it” narrative for months. But even as new information has come in to squash that conspiracy theory, Burkman has adamant that he wants answers for Rich’s family.
According to a new report from The Daily Caller’s Ted Goodman, he’s now taken on a new roll in the case, filing a lawsuit against the D.C. Metropolitan Police for access to bodycam video footage of the murder scene. According to Goodman’s report, an incident report states three responding officers were wearing bodycams, but the DCMPD refuses to acknowledge if footage even exists.
An incident report from the night of the murder states officers heard shots fired at approximately 4:20 a.m. and that when they discovered Rich, he was “conscious and breathing.” And while DCMPD routinely shares video of so-called “cold cases” on its YouTube channel, it hasn’t shared any information about Rich’s case.
The Daily Caller report states:
Police have not yet solved the case, and have closely guarded information regarding his murder from the press. “We don’t want this investigation playing out in the press,” an MPD spokeswoman told The Daily Caller News Foundation May 23.
MPD surmised that Rich was a victim of a botched robbery. Police said that they found his wallet, credit cards and cell phone on his body. The band of his wristwatch was torn but not broken. The current theory maintains that the shooters panicked after shooting Rich and immediately fled the scene …
Burkman, who is offering a $105,000 reward in the case, wants to force the police department to release video footage of the murder, along with the medical examiner’s report and ballistic reports related to the weapon used to shoot Rich.
Burkman is also leading an independent investigation into the murder with volunteers from George Washington University’s Student Association for Forensic Psychology. The independent investigation is being touted as The Profiling Project, featuring professors and graduate students from the D.C.-based university.
The Rich family has asked the DCMPD to make details of its investigation public. Click here to read the rest of the article. {eoa}
