What Melania Trump Did in Italy Has the Internet Buzzing
President Donald Trump has been having a highly successful foreign tour, but First Lady Melania Trump stole the show in Italy on Wednesday.
During her husband’s audience with Pope Francis, she asked for permission to visit Bambino Gesu Children’s Hospital in Rome. There, she spent time interacting with the hospital’s young patients—without an interpreter.
In addition to English and her native Slovenian, the first lady is also fluent in Serbian (a byproduct of having grown up in what was then Yugoslavia), French, German and Italian. So, as she met with the children, she was able to do so in their native language in a way few other foreign dignitaries could.
What resulted as a “play date” of sorts with the first lady. She made arts and crafts with the children, signed some of their bandages and played games. She also met with some of the children who weren’t able to come out of their beds, including one who was on a waiting list for a heart transplant.
Following the visit, the White House issued this statement from the first lady:
“My visit to Bambino Gesu Children’s Hospital today was very moving. To spend time speaking to and coloring with children who have such a positive spirit despite illness was an amazing gift.
“The time I spent with the little ones in the Intensive Care Unit is something I will never forget, and I will pray for each of them daily. I want to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the hospital, who all do such beautiful and critical work.
“Upon landing in Belgium, I learned a young boy (and his family) who had been waiting for a heart transplant was informed that the hospital has found a donor. I read a book and held hands with this special little one just a few hours ago, and now my own heart is filled with joy over this news.”
Meanwhile, the liberal mainstream media in the U.S. are busy trying to decipher her hand gestures to determine if the first family is having any marital problems. Yes, really. As for the president, well, they’re making “news” of his hands, too.
