This Is God’s Weapon to Overcome the ‘Political Spirit’
God is giving us keys to overcome the political spirit. Jesus revealed an important principle when He told us, “If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand” (Mark 3:24-25). On this basis, we have seen the political spirit attack and divide the church quite successfully. Every spiritual leader I know has felt the sting of this tactic and God is now responding. He is about to judge the spirit responsible for division and place it under our feet. It is undoubtedly the political spirit!
The Present Battle
The political spirit, like politics itself, is divisive. Often attacking in concert with a religious spirit, it maneuvers to usurp legitimate authority by leveraging our differences. It exploits gaps, seizing power through offense and misunderstanding. Opinions and personal preferences become arrows against God’s anointed while it seizes power inch by precious inch.
The Apostle Paul’s himself outlined the dangerous nature of these divisions and factions in 1 Corinthians 1:11: “For it has been declared to me concerning you, my brothers, by those who are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.”
He went on to underscore how division this spirit is and that it is the very antithesis of Christ at work in our lives. Yet, somehow in each generation, this spirit seems to be able to victimize congregation after congregation, nullifying significant leaders. But the end of its influence is at hand. Soon the defense of running and hiding will not be necessary as something is changing globally!
God is Bringing Down the Political Spirit—Through “Family”
At this time, we are seeing God turn His gaze toward that spirit, determined to bring it down. The means by which God will sideline the political spirit is the family. The family is the entity able to resist this spirit’s divisive wiles. The uniqueness of the family has the capacity for unusual cohesion through honor.
It is a grouping where all have a place regardless of talent, maturity, size or function. While an odd uncle may lack status elsewhere, he has a place in family. This is clearly something we cannot typically say for the business arena or other social constructs, and even traditional church. For this reason, God has ordained the family as a kind of secret weapon. He calls us brethren (brothers), declaring its inherent power.
“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity” (Ps. 133:1). The beauty of this familial unity draws God Himself to command life (see Ps. 133:3). Such a command no power in heaven or earth can resist.
A Wave of Blessings and a Sign of ‘Family’ in the White House
There is unity available in family we have greatly underestimated. When we find it, we will experience an unprecedented wave of power through this “commanded blessing” over us. It will emasculate the political spirit in our midst.
As a sign of this, God has raised up Donald Trump. Yet, He has not only raised up Donald Trump, but the Trump family. It is a sign! Like the Kennedy family from years past, whose influence we know extended decades, God uses families. Today, like then, God is raising up a standard against the specter of political corruption, because He has His eye on a spirit. The Trump family points to a unity impervious to attacks able to destroy other structures.
As the family of God, we are His weapon. Unlike most other structures where our value is determined by our contributions, family members have inherent worth. When this value is in place the political spirit cannot make inroads or easily divide us. The family that sees each other as indispensable is a barrier against the coercion that would otherwise turn us against one another. We will live to see the family make the political spirit irrelevant.
