Ben Carson PAC Staffers Make Surprise Move
Typically, the most “loyal” supporters of a campaign are those who are working the hardest to raise money for their candidate, particularly those who work for a Super PAC.
Five staffers in New Hampshire who were working for The 2016 Committee, a Super PAC that worked to recruit Dr. Ben Carson into the Republican presidential field, resigned recently, and according to WMUR-TV, have since volunteered with the Ted Cruz campaign. The move comes as the Carson campaign is still reeling from the loss of most of its national campaign staff shortly after Christmas.
“We hold Dr. Carson in the highest regard,” Jerry Sickles, one of the staffers who bolted, said. “This is a man we revere, but we think it is important that our party nominate a conservative and get behind a single conservative who can win, and we strongly believe that candidate is Ted Cruz.”
Sickles, of Keene, said that he was also speaking on behalf of former state Rep. Tim Comerford of Fremont, Joel Lambert of Alton, Jaye Foster of Keene and Emily Lecuyer of Hampstead. All five say they are now endorsing Ted Cruz for president.
They indicated they wrestled with the decision for some time, but were ultimately swayed because Carson has done little active campaigning in New Hampshire.
