Christian Recording Artist Says He Supports Ted Cruz
Presidential candidate U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) picked up a not-so-surprising endorsement Thursday from a recording artist who has appeared with him on the campaign trail this election cycle.
Michael Tait, the lead singer of the Christian pop-rock recording group Newsboys, told FOX News Radio’s Todd Starnes he was inspired to support the Texas senator after his campaign launch speech last year at Liberty University. The LU alumnus said he was moved by Cruz’s drive, hunger and solid principles.
“I saw him, his family, the way he talked to people in person. I saw his drive, his hunger for solid principles, solid ideas going forward in our country that, even as an African-American, if you want to get really technical about it, I support 100 percent,” Tait told Starnes.
Tait appeared on the campaign trail last year with Cruz at his rally for religious liberty in Des Moines, Iowa, performing with the rest of Newsboys on stage. In his interview with Starnes, he offered advice for Christians still trying to decide for whom they should vote:
“People of faith should vote for a man they believe in. A man they feel can do the job, not falter, not say one thing before the election and do another whole thing after the election, a man that stands his ground, keeps his word, protects our freedom. That’s who you should vote for.”
