Ted Cruz Gets 2 Possibly Critical Evangelical Endorsements

To win his party’s presidential nomination, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) must win Wisconsin and nearly all of the remaining states that vote between now and June 7.

Wisconsin and its 42 delegates are up for grabs on Tuesday in a contest where the top vote getter wins all of the delegates in each congressional district, as well as statewide. Cruz already has the endorsement of Gov. Scott Walker, who dropped out of the GOP presidential race prior to the votes being cast in neighboring Iowa.

The Texas senator has picked up two more endorsements that could be critical to his winning the Badger State. The first was from Wisconsin Right to Life:

Wisconsin Right to Life’s Political Action Committee supports Ted Cruz as the only presidential candidate with a proven record on life who can win.

“There has never been an election more important than this election, and the stakes have never been higher when it comes to protecting the unborn,” stated Chelsea Shields, PAC Director of Wisconsin Right to Life. “There is only one candidate for president who has always been pro-life, who has a 100-percent pro-life voting record with National Right to Life and Wisconsin Right to Life, and who can win the Republican nomination and defeat pro-abortion Hillary Clinton in November. And that candidate is Ted Cruz.”

As president, Ted Cruz would:

    • Work to restore legal protections to unborn babies and their mothers
    • Protect unborn babies from abortion, including painful and barbaric dismemberment abortions
    • Appoint judges who protect life
    • Keep your tax dollars from paying for abortion

For these reasons, Wisconsin Right to Life’s Political Action Committee is urging every pro-life voter in Wisconsin to vote for Ted Cruz in the Presidential Preference Primary on April 5.

Cruz also picked up the personal endorsement of a key evangelical pro-family leader in Wisconsin. Julaine Appling, president of Wisconsin Family Action, said Wednesday that Cruz is a man of integrity who has kept the promises he made when he ran for Senate.

“He has a proven track record of standing up for the Constitution, religious liberties, and traditional American values,” Appling, who leads Wisconsin’s leading pro-family organization, said. “I’m excited that we are not being asked to choose between the lesser of two evils at the ballot box—in Ted Cruz, we have a champion to support!”

In addition to Appling’s personal support, Cruz also picked up Wisconsin Family Action PAC’s official endorsement. The organization has the ability to immediately reach out to hundreds of thousands of evangelicals in the Badger State.

“Wisconsin Family Action PAC is pleased to endorse U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz for president,” the group said in a statement. “We believe Senator Cruz has the character, the temperament and the right values to lead America. He has proven throughout his career and during the campaign that he understands the importance of strengthening, preserving and promoting in this country natural marriage and family, the sanctity of human life and constitutionally provided religious freedom.”

Cruz said he was “honored” to have the support going into Tuesday’s primary. He said he will continue to fight to reverse the negative policies of the Obama administration and to bring economic prosperity back to Wisconsin families.

Winning most, if not all, of Wisconsin’s delegates will be critical to Cruz’ effort to win the GOP presidential nomination outright ahead of this summer’s Republican National Convention. He currently trails Donald Trump by 288 delegates and must win more than 90 percent of the remaining delegates to reach 1,237.

To stay on track, Cruz must win at least 38 delegates on Tuesday. He currently leads Trump by 3 points, 35-32, according to the Real Clear Politics polling average from Wisconsin.
