This Group’s First-Ever Endorsement Goes to Ted Cruz
Throughout its history, The Club for Growth’s political action committee has never made a presidential endorsement, although it has worked tirelessly for free-market and limited-growth conservatives.
That all changed Wednesday when the organization’s PAC released the following statement announcing its first-ever presidential endorsement. That endorsement went to U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas).
“Ted Cruz is the best free-market, pro-growth, limited-government candidate in the presidential race,” Club for Growth President David McIntosh said. “The Club’s PAC has never endorsed in a presidential race, but this year is different because there is a vast gulf between the two leading Republican candidates on matters of economic liberty.”
Club for Growth’s public squabbles with Donald Trump were an early facet of the Republican front-runner’s campaign. McIntosh’s statement held nothing back in its continued criticisms of the New York businessman.
“Their records make clear that Ted Cruz is a consistent conservative who will fight to shrink the federal footprint, while Donald Trump would seek to remake government in his desired image,” he said. “That’s why the Club’s PAC is urging everyone in the conservative movement to join in this important campaign to elect Ted Cruz as President.”
