Democrat Senator Vows to Vote Against ‘For the People Act’
Conservatives have pushed back against the “For the People Act” since its passing in the House in March. Democrats, however, have largely supported it. West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin has taken a stunning leap away from his Democratic peers and has said he will not be voting in favor of the act.
The act, which aims to overhaul election procedures, is said to open the floodgates for fraud.
“I believe that partisan voting legislation will destroy the already weakening binds of our democracy, and for that reason, I will vote against the For the People Act. Furthermore, I will not vote to weaken or eliminate the filibuster,” Manchin wrote in an op-ed published Sunday in the Charleston (West Virginia) Gazette-Mail.
