New Orleans Pastors Kneel for 30 Minutes to Pray for Racial Reconciliation
Christians of many races gathered in Jackson Square in New Orleans on Pentecost Sunday to repent for the racial injustices of their nation and ask for forgiveness. The event was organized by Pastors Dean Sunseri and George Green.
At one point during the event, Sunseri asked all the white attendees to kneel and ask for forgiveness from both God and their black neighbors.
“I repent for the sins that have occurred in this very place over the generations,” Sunseri prays in a video from the event. “I also repent to my African American brothers and sisters that stand before us right now, and I say that the way you’ve been treated in the past and even today—we recognize that it’s wrong. We are sorry. We apologize. And we humbly kneel before you and ask for forgiveness. We know that forgiveness does not solve the problem, but spiritually, we stand before God right now and recognize that we have sinned. We ask you, God, for forgiveness and we ask you, my brothers and sisters, for forgiveness.”
At another time, the protesters kneeled for 30 minutes straight in prayer to God for racial reconciliation. Watch video of the event here.
