Queen of England Affirms New Voting Laws Requiring Photo ID

Share:

During her annual speech to Parliament Tuesday, Queen Elizabeth II introduced new voting laws that would enforce a higher level of election security, including requiring photo identification to vote in general elections.

Currently, people in the U.K. can vote at their local polling station by confirming their name and address, except in Northern Ireland where photo ID has been required since 2003, barrons.com reports.

The proposal, much like the new voting requirements many U.S. states are enacting as of late, is being met with opposition.
