‘This Could Lead to All-Out War’: An Israeli Report Amid Rising Chaos, Bombings
The night flashes with the burst of flame as rockets are launched to the stars over Israeli towns. Hiding in bunkers or any safe place they can find, Jerusalem residents and those of neighboring towns close to the Gaza Strip huddle together in what has become an increasingly normal occurrence.
“This is more than we expected, and this could lead to all-out war,” Vision for Israel team member Barry Segal reports from the town of Ashkelon.
In this video, Segal shows harrowing scenes happening across the sea of fear-stricken towns. As he drives along the highway, tanks roll past. Though ominous, the tanks serve a noble purpose:
“Israel is embarking upon an operation called Guardian of the Walls,” Segal says, referencing the watchmen on the walls in Isaiah 62:6 (NIV). The verse reads, “O Jerusalem, I have posted watchmen on your walls; they will pray day and night, continually. Take no rest, all you who pray to the Lord.”
“I think [that] is a very interesting prophetic name for what’s happening now,” Segal adds.
As night falls and alarms sound in the background, he hurries to the shelter with first responders.
But the Iron Dome is hard at work, Segal says. “It’s doing its best to intercept any incoming rockets, and the sirens you hear are, of course, to warn people to take shelter as fast as possible.”
While the attacks have certainly increased this week, many Israelis are intimately acquainted with seeking shelter amid chaos. This has become almost a yearly occurrence, one Israeli said during an interview with Segal.
