Video of Formerly Gay Man Singing ‘Nothing but the Blood’ in U.S. Capitol Goes Viral
A video of a Freedom March worship leader singing “Nothing but the Blood” in the U.S. Capitol went viral yesterday.
The video, which has over 227,000 views as of this writing, shows Edward Byrd belting the hymn’s powerful lyrics:
“And oh precious is that flow/ That makes me white as snow/ No other fount I know/ Nothing but the blood of Jesus.”
Byrd came to Washington, D.C., with a group of people belonging to the Changed movement, which offers support to those who once identified as LGBT but have left that lifestyle behind to follow Jesus.
The group came to D.C. to speak with various senators and representatives regarding their feelings on HR-5 (also known as “The Equality Act”) and HR-3570, Flames2Fire Ministries founder Jason Maxwell tells Charisma News.
The Equality Act prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation and could pose a threat to Christian business owners who refuse to serve at same-sex weddings and celebrations. HR-3570 would outlaw sexual orientation conversion therapy. The wording would severely limit Christian counseling from a biblical perspective for those who struggle with same-sex attraction and want to walk in freedom.
Maxwell says that while the group was in D.C., they shared their testimonies at the U.S. Capitol area.
Byrd tells Charisma News that a childhood of physical abuse and anger led him into a lifestyle of gender fluidity. He changed his name to Remy and started wearing makeup and feminine accessories.
But while Byrd was in a club one night, a woman walked up to him and began prophesying.
“She says, ‘You know that there’s a light inside of you. And God has a purpose and a plan for you,'” Byrd says.
Now Byrd shares his story and worships the God who rescued him from a life of pain and confusion. On Sept. 14, Byrd joined hundreds of others in proclaiming that freedom from sin is possible at the Freedom March in Orlando, Florida. The event showcased dozens of testimonies of people who have abandoned the LGBT lifestyle and found freedom and love through Jesus Christ, and several people were baptized.
“God met me right in my sin and loved me into a personal relationship with him,” Byrd says.
